The word Coorparoo is derived from an Aboriginal name for Norman Creek and the Coorparoo Clan lived South of the Brisbane River, generally camping alongside the creeks. Coorparoo became the chosen name of the suburb in 1875, before that it was known as Four Mile Camp.

Coorparoo is home to Eastern Suburbs District Rugby League Football Club, who play all their home games at Langlands Park, where the training sessions for both the Queensland and Australian Rugby League teams are held when they are playing in Brisbane.

 

Giffin Park in Coorparoo is also host to the weekly training sessions for the Brisbane Lions.

OTHER COORPAROO SPORTS

Coorparoo Cricket Club dates all the way back to the 1940's, with the current club which started in 1980. The Coorparoo Cricket Club plays its home games at the Peter Burge Oval.
