Mount Gravatt has been attracting climbers since the early 1890's, after the colonial government of the time declared tMount Gravatt to be 132 acres of recreational reserve. Following this, local residents voluntarily constructed 3 hand-built roads to the summit and a walking track up the hill's slopes.

 

Due to its popularity, a large picnic area was built at the top of Mount Gravatt in 1914, and it immediately became the local "in" picnic spot. It has also been host to car rallies and motorbike events.

 

Now, when you visit the Mount Gravatt lookout, you can enjoy the view whilst dining at the Lovewell Cafe at the top. There's even a little playground for the kids and an educational walk-through garden filled with native plants.

 

and sAs Queensland's only surfing museum, Surf World Gold Coast is located near the Currumbin beachfront and will delight those who love the beach and surf. With an extensive collection of surf boards, this exhibition highlights the evolution of surf board design and technology dating from the early 1930's to today. HISTORY OF MOUNT GRAVATT EXP.LAINED

Mount Gravatt was named by surveyor Robert Dixon in 1840 after George Gravatt who commanded the Moreton Bay penal colony back in 1839. The first school, Mount Gravatt State School, was opened in 1874 and part of the area used to be known locally as "the Terminus", since Mount Gravatt was the end of the line where the electric trams used to run down Logan Road from the suburb into Brisbane CBD. Following the closure of the tram network, public transport has since been provided by buses by local bus company Mount Gravatt Bus Service.

Mount Gravatt is home to the Easts Mount Gravatt rugby league club and the Mount Gravatt Australian Rules Football Club represent the area in the Queensland State League. In 2007, the club were premiers.

The Mount Gravatt Hawks Soccer Club represents  the area in the Brisbane Premier Laegue.
